Norwich All Stars Win last 6 games in a row!

Norwich All Stars win season final game against Notre Dame 73-55

29 April 2012

Norwich, England -

The Norwich All Star players were determined and hungry to win their last game of the season as a win would keep the All Stars with a outside chance of winning the Norfolk League First Division.

Adam Janiszewski led four All Star double figure scorers with 23 points, Edvinas Sostakas chipped in with 18 points. Shooting guard Devin Gary poured in 15 points whilst point guard Nizar Drou rounded out the double figure scorers tallying 11 points in a decisive win against First Division league opponents, Notre Dame 73-55 at City College Norwich.

The All Stars came out strong playing great defense spearheaded by Luke Grimbly and exchanged basket for basket with Notre Dame before closing the first period with a narrow 17-15 lead. The game was tied at  half time 30-30. The All Stars held a narrow five point lead at the end of the Third period, 49-44 before going on a scoring 24-11 rampage run to close out clear winners in the Fourth Period 73-55. We had key contributions from everyone tonight including: Luke Halil, Krystian Iliev, Besim Oxyel, Ibartosz Gruszka, Lewis Goss and Dave Rivers.

B. Moore (15 points) and J Hodds (13) points led the Notre Dame scoring reply respectfully.

The organisational skills to get all of our games in and comply with the league rules were tested to the max over the season as many of our players have family comittments and work various shift work patterns. I am happy to say, we did it thanks to our club members who pitched in and contributed to our success. Well done and a great thank you to our players, our families, our employers, our sponsors and all who have helped and supported us to make it happen this season said Coach Wilson. Well done Norwich All Stars 'where everyone is a star'.

The All Stars are presently in second place and will now have to wait for the full results from across the league to come in and any other technical issues to be addressed to determine their final standings in the Norfolk League First Division.

The Norwich All Stars say THANK YOU to our sponsors and to over 14, 380 plus visitors to our website this year.

Former junior Iren Rainey turns Professional for the Orlando Venom

Former Junior, Iren Rainey from our record breaking Norwich Knicks squad of 1999 '- 2000 season has turned professional in the new International Professional Basketball League. Iren is now playing at the guard position for the Orlando Venom Professional Basketball Team in Orlando, Florida USA.

It's a dream come true from us all said coach Freddie Wilson. Our former players, former coaches and followers will be proud for Iren and his family. Iren touched  and encouraged many whilst he was with us in Norwich. When Iren was just a junior with our Norwich Knicks record breaking club, Iren scored over 50 points in our first record breaking 216 point winning game in the Norfolk League Second Division. Wow!

The very next week the Norwich Knicks went on to record another record breaker scoring 234 points in another winning game in the Norfolk League Fiirst Division.

We had so many outstanding juniors and seniors on the Knicks to back him up. We our still proud of all of our former players forever.

Well done Iren, The Norwich All Stars salute you.

is one of the most well-known and well-respected basketball trainers in the state of Florida. He's had an intriguing journey along the basketball circuit, including playing half of his school career overseas in England where he earned "All Europe" honors. He was then recruited to play at powerhouse, Oak Hill Academy after receiving "Most Outstanding Player" accolades at the well known "Five Star" camp in Pittsburg alongside NBA great, Lebron James. At Oak Hill, he won a National Championship and went on to sign with West Virginia University. Unfortunately the school had some NCAA violations to deal with causing Coach Rainey to have to attend a different school. He completed his college career at Cheyney State University where he excelled as a guard and helped the schools basketball program tremendously.
After getting invited to a couple of professional camps, having some success but not ultimately the success that he was content with, Coach Rainey realized that his mission was beyond just that of playing the game of basketball. He's now dedicated his life to helping young athletes advance into their unlimited potential. His passion for player development and knowledge of the game is evident each time he steps on the court. Coach Rainey has a long list of clients that he trains under his company, "Pro-lyfic Sports Training", including professional players from the NBA, WNBA, as well as college, high school, and middle school.
Just a few of the people he's trained include: former Edgewater superstar, Darius Washington (San Antonio Spurs, currently playing professionally in Turkey), Gerald Green (L.A. Lakers), Jeremiah Rivers (currently playing professionally in Europe), Courtney Lee (Houston Rockets), Nina Stone (former WNBA star), and Nikki Teasley (former WNBA star). He has also been associated with and helped train entire teams, including: West Oaks Academy, Central Florida Yellow Jackets, and AAU's Orlando Venom.
